Reading Blog #1

The book I am currently reading is actually a play. It's THE PLAY that the Drama Club will be performing this year, which I am so excited about! Extra Credit to any of my students who attend the play, so come on down everyone!

Anyway, the name of the play is "You Can't Take it With You". It's by Hart and Kaufman, I know they wrote a bunch of plays together, I should really look up the names of the other ones. So far, from the first 15 pages of the book, it is really funny. The main characters are this crazy family,Vanderhof's. The live in New York City back in the day, in the 1930s. They are really odd, and then all of a sudden there is a guy running through, I think he is a neighbor? Setting off fireworks. It was a little hard to follow when it begins, I hope that the students don't get confused when reading it. The one daughter is Alice, and she seems different then the rest of the family. She works for a company and is dating the boss' son. This is a little too predictable though, isn't it? This crazy family will have to meet the prim and proper, wealthy family at some point. I don't really like Alice, she's a little to peppy for my liking. My favorite character so far is Ed, the son in law who plays all these crazy instruments during the play.

I hope to have more to read later on in the day. Sometimes, it gets difficult to read when you are busy as soon as you get home from work, but I'll try and use my off periods to get this play finished!

That's it for now people! Talk to you soon!

Introduction

Sometimes, we have to challenge ourselves, no matter how hard that is. I am realizing that all the time, with everything that comes up in life. With that in mind, I have decided to Practice What I Preach and create my own online blog. I will blog on here every week just like all of my English 12 students.

This is my 12th year in the district, and I am so excited to start this year off with new students. So far, my classes have been pretty good. I have some seniors suffering from "senioritis", but hopefully that will change! One thing I hope to help them with this year is their own skills and abilities with the written word. Too often, students write without thinking. This may help put some thinking back into the writing. Even for my own self.

Although writing on the blog will be hard, I know it will make myself and my students better writers. Sure, there will be times when we don't know what to say, or how to say it. But TRYING to say something is better than not saying anything at all! I look forward to reading for everyone else writers, and going through this process with my students!
